▫ На своей ранней стадии (на сетке столовой бумагаделотельной машины) две поверхности бумаги формируются по-разному. Это явление называется двусторонностью бумаги. Вследствие этого сеточная (нижняя) сторона более шероховатая, чем верхняя сторона. Специалист обычно узнаёт С.с. немелованных бумаг по лёгким отметкам отверстий сетки на структуре поверхности. Если немелованные бумаги предназначены для одностороннего использования, предпочтительной является обычно верхняя сторона, поскольку она более гладкая и более экономична с точки зрения использования краски (тонера). С др. стороны, на ней часто бывает больше свободного волокна и частиц наполнителя, чем на С.с., что может оказаться вредным при меловании или печати. В случае мелованных бумаг проблема двухсторонности обычно не имеет большого значения. Для устранения этого явления (а также по др. технологическим соображениям) изготовители бумагоделательных машин делают двухсторонние формирующие устройства, в которых вода удаляется с 2 сторон.
